RCCE launches Augustine Courtauld Award scheme

Article created : 09/06/2011 12:58:31
RCCE, with the support of the Augustine Courtauld Trust, has launched it's Award scheme for village hall and community building members.

This scheme provides cash prizes for hall committees developing small scale projects that encourage greater or new use of the hall.
Halls provide a vital role within the community and a venue for different clubs, classes and organisations. All members of the community are encouraged to use the facilities and greater use often results in hall charges remaining affordable.

Hall committees often identify, or are asked by user groups to provide, small scale improvements to the building, or to purchase specialist equipment to encourage greater or new use. RCCE recognises that some committees do not always have the necessary funding available to them to provide these additional facilities and this award may make the crucial difference to whether a project can be completed.

The competition will award three cash prizes: 1st Prize £1000; 2nd Prize £500 and 3rd Prize £250 Applications can be made by downloading the form below. Guidance Notes are available too. CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: FRIDAY 30th SEPTEMBER 2011 WINNERS will be announced at the RCCE Village Halls and Community Building Conference on Saturday 22nd October 2011.

London Calling! Join in the Open Weekend celebration

EssexWorks: Promoting Health and Leisure
Grants of up to £250 are still available to rural communities who want to take part in this year’s Open Weekend.

London 2012 Open Weekend is a nationwide event which marks the date of the opening ceremony for the London 2012 Games. It enables people across the UK the chance to take part in sport, arts and cultural activities in their local area.

This year’s Open Weekend takes place on 22-24 July with the theme ‘London Calling’ - and to ensure the county celebrates, Essex County Council is making the grants of up to £250 available for rural community groups to organise an event.

The available funds could support up to 40 events across rural areas of the county and local communities are being encouraged to apply before the closing date of 17 June.

Cllr Stephen Castle, Cabinet Member for Education and the 2012 Games, Essex County Council said: “Open Weekend provides a great opportunity for all the communities of Essex to join in the countdown to the start of the London 2012 Games.

“It is my hope that Essex residents enjoy Open Weekend this year and start to feel the excitement and build up to the 2012 Games coming to London. I encourage residents living in rural communities take the chance to apply for a grant, put on an event and join in with the celebrations”.

The closing date to apply for funding is 17 June 2011. Application forms are available to download at www.essexlegacy.org or by calling the 2012 Legacy and Strategic Sport team 01245 431493
