The session is informal, with participants and tutors sharing their practical knowledge and experiences of working with communities. The course has been delivered countywide, at a regional level and for individual organisations, the content is easily adaptable to a wide variety of circumstances to suit individual needs. Accredited Community Development Training: Community in Context This course provides participants with an Open College Network qualification at level 2 or level 3, which is recognised nationally and can lead to further learning opportunities. Who is it for? It is designed to meet the training needs of anyone with an interest in working with communities, volunteers, workers in the voluntary and community sector, Parish Clerks, or those seeking a career change. What does it cover? This interactive, practically focussed course is divided into three modules:
What commitment is required? Learners must commit to 60 hours of group learning sessions split into weekly sessions of 3 hours, plus self-study time. The course has been successfully delivered by RCCE and partner organisations through RAE qualifying a range of new and experience Community Development Workers. An introduction to the Statutory Planning System RCCE Field Officer Team have experience in delivery of training on the Statutory Planning System for community groups and planning officers working in Essex. Training has been delivered as a stand alone ½ day session and as part of a wider whole day event. Delivered using a mixture of participatory and lecture style participants have learned about how Statutory Planning works. Essex Training Partnership session: Planning for the future of your community This half day training session run by the RCCE on behalf of the Essex Training Partnership focuses on community led planning. The session is a mix of interactive workshop, focused discussion and presentation style learning. Attendees representing their local parish council are given information on engaging communities in the decision making processes, planning for a future the community envisages, statutory planning, and funding advice. Village Hall Training Training is available for Village Hall and Community Building management committees and volunteers through workshops, seminars and an annual Village Hall & Community Building Conference. The training aims to ensure all halls are encouraged and supported in the management of their charity administration, maintenance of the hall and ensure compliance with any legal requirements relevant to community halls. Ultimately, the hall management committee is encouraged to attain the quality management Hallmark Award, which rewards and gives recognition of good practice and encourages improvements in established customs and procedures. RCCE recently undertook a series of workshops called ‘Manage Your Future’ aimed at encouraging ‘quality management and sustainable funding’. Topics included, amongst others, the role of the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer’, a look at the hall’s governing document or Trust Deed, the Model Hiring Agreement, do’s and don’ts of making funding applications, risk assessment, and funding sources. Presenters are chosen for their qualifications and/or experience in their field of expertise. The Annual Conference provides an informal opportunity for members to meet, socialise and network as well as hear presentations from funding organisations, contractors, finance and legal representatives. All training events are offered at a discounted rate to RCCE Village Hall & Community Building affiliated members. Non-members are welcome to attend at the full price. Membership is available at an annual cost of £35. Further training will be available later in the year – please keep an eye on the RCCE website for further information. Playing Fields RCCE can provide interactive training sessions for Parish Councils, Village Hall Committees and others involved in and responsible for the maintenance of play/recreation areas. Sessions cover topics including Funding, Equipment, Case Studies, and availability of Advice and Support. Guest tutors including RoSPA Inspectors can be arranged, with practical demonstrations on how to examine equipment and advice on undertaking a risk assessment for the play area. Cut Your Carbon RCCE provides training sessions for entrants to EEDA’s Cut Your Carbon competition entrants. Groups taking part will be able to measure their carbon footprint, become more energy efficient and seek to win EEDA match funding of up to £200,000 for projects that apply fresh thinking to cutting carbon emissions.
