Rural Transport and Access Network
A forum to support rural transport initiatives

The network aims to bring together statutory, community and voluntary sector groups who have an interest in rural transport and access to services.
The 23rd October 2007 saw the get together of the Rural Transport and Access Network at a networking lunch hosted by RCCE.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness of sustainable travel and to encourage members of the Rural Transport and Access Network to put ‘green thinking’ into practice when it comes to transport and access to key services in rural Essex.
It’s an opportunity for public, private and voluntary sector organisations, community groups and individuals to meet up and discuss all aspects of rural transport and access to services in our county. We are all aware of the problems faced by our rural communities when it comes to accessing key services and this is an ideal platform for individuals to form new partnerships, find out what is and isn’t happening in Essex and to meet like minded people.
The event, now in its second year, has been able to attract a variety of key note speakers and October’s event was no exception with Louise Harris, Regional Design Action Manager for Inspire East filling the role. Louise was able to provide the members and guests with a better understanding of the regional centre for Excellence for Sustainable Communities and shared examples of sustainable rural schemes that the Inspire East are supporting. The delegates were also given background on other Inspire East initiatives and programmes that are currently being developed in rural areas and how, as a network, we would be able to contribute.
The mix of public, private and voluntary sector representatives all of whom were aware of the Sustainable Communities and appreciated the examples of what they (or the network as a whole) could do to make a difference.
I hope that the success of these events will encourage those with a keen interest in rural transport and access to services to attend similar events in the future.
