Village Hall Advisor

Dear all,

I would like to introduce myself as the Village Halls Adviser for the Rural Community Council of Essex.  My name is Sue Sheppard and I am based at the RCCE offices in Chelmsford and I work part-time for three days a week based around core days of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

As the Village Hall Adviser, I hope to ensure all affiliated village halls and community centres in Essex are provided with encouragement and support in managing their village halls.  I can provide specific advice on hall redevelopment projects and provide information on grant funding bodies and applications.  All affiliated village halls and community centres receive a free bi-monthly newsletter – Village Hall Update and this provides a means of updating Village Hall Management Committees with information on funding, regulations, relevant publications, charity news and success stories from around the county.

You can send us your success stories to share with others through our network, or contact us for further information or advice.

I look forward to visiting your village hall or community centre.

Kind regards

Sue Sheppard, RCCE Village Hall Adviser

A Voice for Village Halls

RCCE undertakes surveys and consultations to provide feedback to Government on a number of issues and to provide evidence for lobbying Government on certain issues, including the Licensing Act and further funding for village halls.  Evidence of these consultations is available in report format available from RCCE.

RCCE encourages Village halls and Community Buildings to diversify their use in order to promote community facilities, sustainability and income.  One of the most innovative ways of encouraging wider use of a hall is to provide a venue for a touring theatre company.  RCCE works closely with Essex On Tour who can facilitate a great range of professionally run shows, plays and musical entertainment for a village hall venue.

Events

An annual Village Hall Conference is held in October to which is open to members and non-members of village halls, parish councils and other interested parties.  The event provides an informal opportunity for attendees to network, gather information and listen to presentations from funding organisations, regulatory bodies, contractors, financial advisers and legal representatives.

Publications

Copies of 36 ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) Information Sheets are available free to affiliated members and cover all aspects of managing a village hall including The Village Hall and its Premises Licence, Trustees – Roles and Responsibilities, Village Halls as Employers etc.
