ART Awards Day and Launch of Essex Rural Skills Project

ART Awards Day and Launch of Essex Rural Skills Project

Abberton Rural Training (ART) held its end-of-term prize-giving ceremony at Wormingford Community Education Centre on 20th July.  The event was to celebrate the end of the academic year and to give out certificates to those who had completed courses in Woodlands, Horticulture, Carpentry and Mixed Trades Construction.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Colchester were present, as were the High Sheriff, Councillors, Trustees and Parish Council members and local residents and they were all delighted to celebrate the achievements of the students. We heard some really positive stories from the students, many of whom are going into full or part time employment.

Students and tutors led the visitors around the site, giving talks about their particular specialist subjects and showing immense pride in the facility at Wormingford Community Education Centre.

The latest project under the ART banner, the Essex Rural Skills Project, was launched at the event. Funding was awarded from the Big Lottery and the European Social Fund (ESF) to deliver this new project which will provide a range of skills training to people aged over 45 who are currently economically inactive. This training will take place at Wormingford Community Education Centre and Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome and will include vocational training, employability skills training and therapy sessions.
