The annual Essex Life Community Magazine Awards competition is organised by RCCE with backing from Essex Life, the Diocese of Chelmsford and Newport News, the eye-catching magazine from Newport, near Saffron Walden which has done much over the years to encourage other villages to follow its example.

Theydon Bois Village News beat off strong competition from the runner-up, ‘Writtle News’, and ‘Great Hallingbury’ from Uttlesford District picked up 3rd prize. There was also an award for the ‘Parish News’ from Terling, Fairstead, White Notley and Faulkbourne, as the best new entry and merit awards for the magazines from Arkesden, Felsted, Flitch Green, & Little Dunmow, Tollesbury & Salcott and Blackmore, Hook End & Wyatts Green.

The winners received their awards at a reception held at The West Street Vineyard in Coggeshall on the 15th May.

The RCCE competition is designed exclusively for magazines edited and put together by volunteers and this year attracted more than 40 entries. Commenting on the competition, RCCE Executive Director, Nick Shuttleworth said; “To judge from the entries received this year these dedicated volunteers are doing more than ever to keep local people informed and aware of what’s happening in their area. Community magazines appear to be more popular than ever.”
