Rural communities in our county face some formidable challenges. This makes the work of Rural Community Council of Essex (RCCE) more essential than ever since we are the only charitable organisation in Essex working exclusively to help people and communities in rural areas build a sustainable future.

The support of our members is vital to the success of a charity like RCCE.  It helps us to provide a unique range of services relevant to the needs of our county’s rural communities. Recent success stories include:

  • Support for new ‘greener’ village halls at Highwood and Messing.
  • Innovative projects to improve access to services such as the Dengie Dart transport service that links isolated villages on the Dengie peninsula with Maldon, Chelmsford and Broomfield Hospital.
  • More schemes to provide affordable housing for local people as at West Hanningfield.
  • Our Village Agents project which has to date assisted over 2,000 registered customers, most of them elderly and isolated, to find the help they need.
  • Facilitating the completion of 16 more parish plans and village design statements.
  • Edible Essex, a new project to promote local food which is helping create new community allotments and orchards.
  • A new Community Oil Buying Scheme that is working to reduce energy bills and tackle fuel poverty in rural Essex.

All members of RCCE automatically receive:

  • Full details of all current RCCE services and contact points.
  • An invitation to our Annual General Meeting with full voting rights.
  • Invitations, with discounted rates, to a range of conferences, seminars and events.
  • A copy of our regular magazine, Oyster, published three times a year.
  • Acknowledgement of your support in our Annual Review and other publicity material.
  • And of course, prompt access to RCCE staff who will be available to meet with you to discuss any issues affecting your community.

Why not consider joining us? With your support we can do even more to improve the quality of life for rural communities throughout Essex.
