Suzanne Harris attended a special service at St Nicholas, Laindon, on Sunday 2nd September, to join with the churchyard volunteers as they celebrated their victory in the 2012 Best Kept Churchyard competition. Revd Diane Ricketts led the service, where Bishop John preached about the differing values of churchyards to the community. Churchwardens Ken and Peter were there to receive the well-earned certificate on behalf of all the volunteers who work tirelessly to mow the grass, tend to the gardens and encourage wildlife to the churchyard of St Nicholas - from where you can take in a breathtaking view across Essex, and down into London!
During the service the mower, purchased using the competition prize-money, was brought into the church by Peter - it is pictured here with Bishop John, Revd Diane Ricketts, Suzanne Harris of RCCE and several of the volunteers who work in the churchyard.
