Edible Essex, in collaboration with the RHS Campaign for School Gardening, invites primary schools in Essex to take part in the ‘Packed Lunch Plot’ competition.

This is your chance to win some FANTSATIC PRIZES for your school by planning what to grow in a small plot and then designing your own lunch menu using the produce.

What could you grow that could be made into a healthy packed lunch?

Last year’s winner was Emily Lawrence of Birch C of E Primary School.  The judges, who included Peter Seabrook MBE, gardening writer and broadcaster, and Essex Chef Charlie Stocker, were impressed by her choice of easy to grow plants and the use of edible flowers in her recipe.

As part of the prize, the school was awarded a polytunnel, enabling them to undertake activities in all weathers and increase their gardening club membership. Emily’s class also enjoyed an action-packed day at RHS Hyde Hall, where they each played a part in preparing and planting her winning plot design.

The competition winners even featured on the BBC Countryfile programme!

Let’s show the government that packed lunches can be healthy and nutritious!  We want to hear some exciting and new ideas for lunches. Can you better Emily’s ‘Summer Sunshine Pasta Salad’ and ‘Lavender Cupcakes’?
