The annual Essex Life Community Magazine Awards competition is organised by RCCE with backing from Essex Life, the Diocese of Chelmsford and Newport News, the eye-catching magazine from Newport, near Saffron Walden which has done much over the years to encourage other villages to follow its example.

AMBO beat off strong competition from the runner-up, ‘The Link, Stansted Mountfitchet’, and ‘Writtle and Theydon Bois’ from Chelmsford and Epping Forest District picked up joint 3rd prize. There was also an award for the ‘Maplestead Magna Carta’ from Great Maplestead, as the best new entry.  Both the Billericay Town Crier and The Lavers & Matching News received Highly Commended awards and merit awards went to Debden Parish Pump, Fyfield Focus, The Yellow Book from Steeple Bumpstead and Tollesbury & Salcott Parish Magazine

The winners received their awards at a reception held at The West Street Vineyard in Coggeshall on the 20th July.

The RCCE competition is designed exclusively for magazines edited and put together by volunteers and this year attracted more than 40 entries. Commenting on the competition, RCCE Executive Director, Nick Shuttleworth said; “To judge from the entries received this year these dedicated volunteers are doing more than ever to keep local people informed and aware of what’s happening in their area. Community magazines appear to be more popular than ever.”
