Loosely inspired by Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, A Knight’s Tale is an adventure comedy set in medieval Europe and stars the late Heath Ledger as William Thatcher, a peasant masquerading as a knight in the world of medieval jousting, and Paul Betney as Chaucer.

The film starts at 8.15pm but gates open at 5.30pm, so picnickers will have plenty of time to relax in the beautiful gardens of our venue, Layer Marney Tower. Past picnickers have ranged from those who like to wine and dine, bringing the full works including candelabras, to those who tuck into a generous portion of fish and chips acquired on route!

So come along with a picnic and enjoy a summer’s evening entertainment at one of Essex’s most majestic attractions, Layer Marney Tower, England’s tallest Tudor gatehouse.  What’s more, you will be doing your bit to raise money for a good cause as all proceeds will go to the Essex Rural Fund (managed by Essex Community Foundation Reg. Charity No. 1052061).
