RCCE is holding an open air cinema and picnic event at Layer Marney Tower, near Colchester,  on Sunday, 18th August to raise money for the Essex Rural Fund, a funding stream specifically set up to support rural community groups and charities in Essex.

‘Flix in the Stix’, as the annual event has been dubbed, starts with gates opening at 5.30pm for picnickers to set up and enjoy the beautiful gardens before the film commences at 8.15pm, and this year it’s the classic family favourite ‘My Fair Lady’ being screened.

Nick Shuttleworth, Executive Director of RCCE said “This has become an annual event since the fund was set up in 2009 as part of RCCE’s 80th anniversary celebrations and has been growing in popularity ever since. It’s a lovely way to spend a summer evening in beautiful surroundings, at the same time as doing a bit for charity”.

One of this country's most dramatic buildings, Layer Marney Tower was built in the reign of Henry VIII and was visited by that most powerful of monarchs, and by his daughter, Elizabeth I. With the tower as a backdrop, it makes it one of the grandest and most memorable cinema theatre settings, and certainly an evening to remember with family and friends.
