Share your views on the Essex Rural Strategy

Residents will get the chance to share their views on the Essex Rural Strategy when the public consultation goes live next week.

The Essex Rural Strategy sets out a vision for our rural areas to thrive. The strategy seeks to provide a framework and aspirational goals to ensure that social, economic and environmental aspects of our rural villages and hinterland are offering the best possible place to live and work. It will be used to influence local policy and to guide the priorities and actions of those who deliver services in rural parts of the county.

The public consultation opens today (Monday 28 September 2015) and residents will have until Friday 4th December 2015 to share their views by completing an online questionnaire.

The questionnaire is the public consultation element of research leading up to a new Rural Strategy and offers an opportunity for you to tell us about your experience of living in a rural area, and what you consider to be the important issues that the strategy should seek to address.

All Essex residents can take part in the consultation but Essex Rural Partnership is particularly seeking views from people who live, work or own businesses in rural areas and those who visit rural areas for recreation or access to services.

County Councillor Roger Hirst, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Libraries, Planning and the Environment, and Chair of the Essex Rural Partnership, said: “The Essex Rural Strategy was updated in 2009 to establish a new 10 year vision to 2020, with a five year strategy for 2010 – 2015.  We now need to review and update the strategy and publish a new Rural Strategy for Essex by early 2016.
I would like to encourage those who are interested to take part in the consultation so they can share their views and help to shape the 2020 vision for rural Essex.”

The Essex Rural Strategy is owned by the Essex Rural Partnership which is made up of a variety of public, private and voluntary sector organisations.  For more information visit www.essexruralpartnership.org.uk
