On Wednesday 9 October Parish Councillors from across the Uttlesford district visited a number of affordable rural housing schemes on a ‘See It Believe It’ tour. The group visited Wimbish, Thaxted, Hatfield Broad Oak, Clavering and Langley where they were joined by each of the parish councils to hear about their experience of going through the process of developing homes for local people.

The tour aimed to show the high standard of design of the schemes and three residents were kind enough to open their doors to allow the group to see inside as well as outside of the houses.

RCCE’s Rural Housing Enabler was on hand to answer any questions about starting the process while housing association officers and UDC’s Housing Enabling Officer helped with queries around development, management and allocations.  A coffee and cake stop in Hatfield Broad Oak village hall provided an opportunity to talk about any issues they had with their community’s thoughts on the issue with others who had been through the process , were going through the process or were considering exploring if there was a need for affordable housing in their parish.
