#The search is on for the 2019 Essex Village of the Year. This popular annual competition run by RCCE, with the support of sponsors Essex & Suffolk Water and Inkpen Downie Architecture & Design Ltd, focusses on the efforts local people are making to strengthen and sustain rural community life.

In announcing the launch of this year’s competition, RCCE Executive Director, Nick Shuttleworth said:

“Throughout Essex, villages of all sizes provide a range of clubs, events and activities for all sections of the community. Many are working hard to safeguard key services, improve amenities such as village halls and reduce loneliness and social isolation. Essex Village of the Year is all about rewarding and celebrating such community initiative and enterprise. It highlights the very best of rural Essex.”

The competition is easy to enter, with a single question entry form, and is open to any village in Essex with a population of up to 6,000. The prizes on offer include £500 and the Essex & Suffolk Water Shield for the Village of the Year. The deadline for entries is Friday 8th March. The winners will be announced at RCCE’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 10th July.
