COMPASS is a local Domestic Abuse Helpline for
victims/survivors to access advice and support. COMPASS is open 7 days a week,
365 days a year. The helpline is free and confidential, aimed at
anyone aged 16 or over across Southend, Essex and Thurrock. The team can also
provide guidance to the public and professionals who have concerns about
family, friends and people they work with who may be victims of domestic abuse.
Callers will speak with one of the highly trained team members who will
complete an assessment and ensure contact is made by the local specialist
support service within the victim/survivor’s area; Safe Steps, Changing
Pathways or The Next Chapter. Referrals and self-referrals can be through the
website; within the referral form are safety questions regarding which method
of contact is safe to use.

“The Change Project (TCP) is our local behaviour change
service for individuals who are concerned about their behaviour towards their
partner, ex-partner or family members (including in-laws). TCP provide a free
and voluntary programme called The Change Hub, which is aimed at anyone
aged 16 or over across Southend, Essex and Thurrock who would like help to
change. The programme is carried out in a non-judgemental way on a one-to-one
basis, tailoring the programme to the individual’s circumstances. Individuals
can make contact via call, text, email or the referral form on the website.
Referrals can be made by professionals or individuals themselves anytime, day
or night.

- The Change Project is closed over the holidays from 22/12/23, until
they re-open on 03/01/24. During this period people can be directed to the
national Respect Phoneline who also help people who are concerned about
their abusive behaviour towards loved ones. Respect’s phonelines are
closed on weekends and Bank Holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New
Years Day), however, are open on weekdays 10am-5pm – 0808 8024040, and by
